Running a giveaway is a fun and easy way to grow your email list fast. People love free stuff, and if you offer something valuable, they'll gladly hand over their email for a chance at winning. A simple giveaway form is all you need to start collecting entries and building your audience.
In this article, we’ll show you how to create a giveaway form, connect it to an email marketing tool, and pick a winner without any hassle. Whether you're launching something new or just wanting to boost engagement, a giveaway can be a great way to get more eyes on your brand and grow your list at the same time.
What you’ll need:
- A Typeform account
- An email marketing tool
- A number generator to pick a winner
Add questions to your form
- We’ll start our giveaway form with a Welcome Screen to let respondents know that they’ll have a chance to win something.
2. Next, we’ll add a Contact Info question to collect the respondent’s name, phone number and email. Add a description to let them know how they’ll be contacted if they’re the winner.
3. We’ll add a Partial Submit Point after the Contact Info question, that way if the respondent fills out the Contact Info question but doesn’t complete the rest of the form, we’ll still collect their contact information.
4. We’ll add a Multiple Choice question next that asks what products they're interested in and we can then tailor marketing emails to what they’re looking for. We’ll toggle on Multiple selection to let respondents select more than one answer.
5. We’ll use a Yes/No question asking for consent to receiving newsletters. When you connect the form to an email marketing tool, you can use this question to opt respondents in or out of receiving emails.
6. Next, we'll add a Checkbox question asking respondents to agree to our terms & conditions.
7. Lastly, we’ll add an Ending to thank respondents for submitting their entry.
We’ll toggle on Social share icons, so respondents can share the form with others on their social media. We’ll also toggle on Button and change the text to Shop now. Toggle on Button link and enter your website or any URL you want respondents to be redirected to when they click the button on the End Screen.
Branding your form
Make your form stand out by adding your logo, customizing the colors, adding images or videos, and much more. Click Design in the tool bar to get started. More information on how to customize your form to match your brand here.
Settings on your form
Adjust the settings of your form by clicking the Settings icon in the tool bar of the Content panel. You can add settings such as sending partial responses to integrations, spam prevention, duplicate response prevention and much more.
If you’re connecting your form with an integration, make sure to toggle on the Send partial responses to integrations setting. This will make sure that partial responses are sent to your email marketing tool or to whatever integration you’re using.
Toggle on Advanced spam prevention to avoid bots trying to game the system. You can also toggle on Duplicate response prevention to only allow people to respond once to your form, or choose how many times someone can enter the giveaway.
You can set a response limit to your form to automatically close it once you’ve hit a certain number of responses, or you can schedule a close date. You can find these settings under Access & Scheduling. More information can be found here.
Click the Share/Publish edits button to make all your changes live.
Connect to an email marketing tool
Connect your form to an email marketing tool to easily use the collected email addresses and other details for sending marketing emails. Click on the Connect panel to link your form to another tool.
You can connect your form to email marketing tools such as Klayvio, Mailchimp, or HubSpot. Alternatively, you can also use Zapier to connect Typeform with another email marketing tool if you don’t see the integration you’re looking for in the Connect panel.
Pick a winner
Once you’ve collected responses, you can pick a winner for your giveaway. An easy way to do this is to export your responses to a CSV file and use a random number generator.
Let’s say you have a total of 500 responses, then use the random number generator to generate a random number between 2 and 500 (set the starting number to 2 to accommodate for the header in line 1). If the random number is 339, the respondent in line 339 will be the winner of the giveaway. You can then contact the winner to give them their prize!
