The Results Summary section gives you a summarized version of how respondents answered your questions. Results are displayed in tables or charts, giving you a visual representation of the data you’ve collected. This makes it easier to interpret trends and spot patterns across multiple questions. You’ll also be able to quickly keyword search through open-ended text responses, without having to manually scan responses, saving you time.
The Results Summary page is available on all plans, excluding Typeform legacy plans. Date and question filtering is available on the Basic or higher plans. Check out our pricing page for more details.

View your Results Summary
To view your Results Summary, click Results and then Summary.
You can choose to view your Results Summary by the number of responses or by the percent of responses. Click on the # or % icons at the top of the page to switch between the views.
You can also click Share to print your Results Summary as a PDF, export it to a .csv file and generate a sharable report.
Viewing text based responses
Text based responses will be displayed in individual cards below the question. You can scroll through to view all of the text responses.
View the cards in a list format by clicking the expand icon.
Use the search bar to keyword search your text based responses.
You can also keyword search the “Other” text field option in the Multiple Choice question type.
The summary of a Number question type will show the statistics of mean, median, min-max, and standard deviation. Check out the next section of the article for definitions of the statistics used in the Results Summary page.
Viewing close-ended responses
Close-ended responses will be summarized and displayed in charts. The types of charts available will depend on the question type.
Opinion Scale, Rating, Multiple Choice, Dropdown, Picture Choice, Yes/No, Legal, and Checkbox question types have the option to view responses in a vertical, horizontal, or in a table chart.
Below is a vertical chart for a Multiple Choice question.
Click the chart icons to switch between other chart/table options. Below is an example of a table chart for a Multiple Choice question.
Here is an example of a horizontal chart for a Multiple Choice question.
The Opinion Scale and Rating question types will show statistical information (mean, median, and standard deviation).
The NPSⓇ question type can be shown in either a vertical chart or in a table. The vertical chart for the NPSⓇ question type is color coded to help quickly identify the detractors, passives, and promoters.
- Green - Promoters
- Yellow - Passives
- Red - Detractors
The table view for the NPSⓇ question type will show the response count and percentages for each answer option.
Both charts for the NPSⓇ question type will show your NPSⓇ score, the number and percentage of respondents who are detractors, passives, or promoters. Your NPSⓇ score is calculated by subtracting detractors from promoters.
The Matrix question type can be displayed in either a grouped horizontal bar chart or table. Below is a horizontal chart for a Matrix question type.
When you switch to the table view for the Matrix question type, you can see the count and percentages for each answer option. Percentages are shown in the table view only.
The Ranking question type has the option to view responses in a grouped vertical chart, table, or highest ranked list. Below is a grouped vertical chart for a Ranking question type where you can see how respondents ranked each answer option.
You can switch the view of a Ranking question type to a list that shows answer options ranked from highest to lowest. The mean on each answer option is the average ranking it had received. The lower the mean, the higher ranking it received from respondents.
Definitions of descriptive statistics
The Number, Rating, Opinion Scale, and Ranking question types show one or more descriptive statistics. Below you’ll find definitions of each statistic.
- Mean - The average of a set of numbers. The mean is calculated by adding all the values from a question and then dividing it by the number of responses to that question.
- Median - The middle value in a sorted list of numbers. If there’s an even number of values, the average of the two middle numbers will be displayed.
- Standard deviation - A measure of how spread out the numbers are from the mean. A low standard deviation means the values are close to the mean; a high one means they vary more widely.
- Min-Max (available on the Number question type) - The smallest (min) and the largest (max) values in a data set.
Recall information in your Results Summary
If you’re using Recall information in your question text, when you view your Results Summary, you’ll see a blank space where the Recall information is. This is because the text can change depending on users’ answers, which can be unique.
When you’re creating your form with Recall information in the question text, it’ll look something like the image below.
But when a respondent fills out the form, they might see something like this:
Then in your Results Summary, the question text will look like the image below.
Date and question filtering
Date and question filtering is available on the Basic or higher plan.
You can use the date filter at the top of the Results Summary page to view your summary for a certain time frame.
Click the Filters button to filter your Results Summary by question or response type.
Click the dropdown and select or type what you would like to filter your results by. You can choose to filter by questions, response type (complete or partial response), and URL parameters.
In our example, we want to view only completed responses in our Results Summary. We’ll add a condition that says Response type is any of completed, like in the image below.
You can add another filter to view specific results by clicking + Add filter. You can add up to 10 filter rules.
Select an operator (AND or OR) from the dropdown for your additional filters. The operator you select here will be the same operator applied to the additional filter rules.
The AND operator will only show responses that have met all specified conditions. The OR operator will show responses that have met at least one of the specified conditions.
We’ll add another filter to view responses from people who have heard about us through a friend. In the Choose a question or data dropdown, we’ll select the question “How did you hear about us?”
Then, for the operator, we’ll select Is equal to and we’ll select the answer choice A friend told me about it from the dropdown.
We'll add another filter for our URL parameter utm_campaign. For the operator, we'll select Contains and we'll type in feedback.
If you're filtering by URL parameters and using the Contains operator, make sure to type in the exact URL parameter you've entered in your form's URL.
Then click Apply when you’re done.
Now our Results Summary will show only completed responses from people who have heard of us through a friend and their form contained the URL parameter utm_campaign for feedback.
Group filters
You can also add Group filters to find a very specific group of respondents. You can add one or more filter rules inside a group and then use the AND and OR operators between the Group filters.
For example, you can find your most satisfied customers by using Group filters.
- Group 1, you can filter for respondents who've answered an NPS® with 8 or higher.
AND
- Group 2, you can filter for anyone who has rated the products with 7 or higher OR for anyone who has purchased more than 6 times.

Note! You can have up to 3 Group filters and a maximum of 10 filter rules within each Group filter.
To create Group filters:
1. Create your first filter. We've selected to filter by our NPS® question "How likely are you to recommend our products to a friend or colleague?" Is greater than 8.
2. Click Add filter group. When you click Add filter group, this will turn the filter rules you've created in step 1 into Group 1 of your Group filters.
3. Select the operator you want to use between Group filters, AND or OR. We'll select AND.
4. Then create another filter rule. We'll create a rule for the question "How would you rate our products?" Is greater than 7.
5. Click + Add filter to add another rule to Group 2.
6. We'll select the operator within Group 2 be OR.
7. We'll create a rule for the question "How many times a year have you purchased with us?" Is any of 6-8 times and 9 or more times.
8. Then click Apply to view the Results Summary with the Group filters you've created.
Now our Results Summary will only show responses where someone has answered with the NPS® score of 8 or higher AND rated our products with 7 or higher OR they have purchased more than 6 times.
Saved views
Saved views are available on Plus plans and above.
You can save your applied filters as a view so you can return to the same filtered results without setting them up again. This is helpful if you regularly analyze the same segment of responses or want teammates to use the same filtering criteria.
You can set up as many saved views as you like.
1. After applying your filters, select Save view.
2. Give your view a name and click Save.
Saved views appear in a dropdown so you can switch between them at any time.
The unfiltered Default Summary view will load first when you open the Summary tab.

Note! Currently, saved views cannot be edited or deleted. If you modify or add filters while viewing a saved view, you’ll need to save the changes as a new view.
