Capture more valuable data from people who don’t finish your form.
When the Capture partial responses after every question setting is turned on, answers are saved to your Results each time a respondent moves to the next question. If they leave the form before submitting it, you can still see the answers they entered as a partial response, without needing to set anything up manually in the form.
It’s a more automatic alternative to Partial Submit Points, so you don’t need to choose at which points in your form responses are sent to your Results.
Plan availability
This setting is available on Growth and Enterprise plans.
On other paid plans, you can still collect partial responses with Partial Submit Points.
Within the same form, you can use either the Capture partial responses after every question setting or Partial Submit Points, but not both at the same time.
Before you start
If your form already has Partial Submit Points and you turn on Capture partial responses after every question, the Partial Submit Points will disappear from the form builder. If you turn the setting off again, they’ll appear in the builder again.
Turn on capture partial responses after every question
- Open the form you want to edit.
- Go to Form settings.
- Turn on Capture partial responses after every question.
- Click Save.
How it works
Each time someone answers a question, Typeform saves the answers collected so far.
If someone skips a question, nothing is saved for that question.
While someone is still filling out the form, you may see their response marked as In progress in the Responses table. If they stop filling out the form, their answers are saved as a Partial response after around 8 minutes. At that point, the partial response is also sent to connected integrations, Contacts (if your form is mapped), automations, and webhooks.
If they finish the form, the response is saved as a completed response as usual.
View partial responses in your results
You can view these responses in the Responses section of the Results panel.
Depending on where someone is in the form, you may see one of these response types:
- In progress: the person is still filling out the form
- Partial response: the person stopped filling out the form, and their progress was saved
- Completed: the person finished the form and submitted it
What happens to connected integrations
Connected integrations won’t receive a new update after every answered question.
Instead, if someone leaves the form without submitting it, the answers they already entered are saved as a partial response after around 8 minutes. After that, the partial response is sent to connected integrations like Google Sheets, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Contacts, Automations, and webhooks.
If someone completes the form, the completed response is sent right away as usual.
This helps avoid sending lots of repeated rows, messages, or updates while someone is still filling out the form.
FAQ
Can I use this with Partial Submit Points?
No. You can collect partial responses with Capture partial responses after every question or with Partial Submit Points, but not both in the same form at the same time.
What happens to my existing Partial Submit Points?
If you turn on Capture partial responses after every question, any Partial Submit Points already in the form will disappear from the builder. If you turn the setting off again, they’ll appear in the builder again. While this setting is turned on, you won’t see the option to add a Partial Submit Point from the Add content menu.
Do my existing responses change if I turn this setting on or off?
No. Existing responses stay the same in your Responses table and in your exports.
Can I use this with a Payment question?
Payment data is still only captured when someone reaches the end of the form and submits it fully.
Can partial responses be sent to integrations?
Yes. After a partial response is saved, it is sent to supported connected integrations.
What happens if someone comes back to the form later?
If someone comes back to the form after their partial response has already been saved, their later activity appears as a new response in your Results.
Where can I view these responses?
You can view them in the Responses section of your Results panel.
