Connect Typeform Automations to Square to create or update a Square customer profile when someone submits a form or a Contact is updated in Typeform Contacts.
You can also add conditions and other actions to the same automation. For example, send a lead to Square only if they select “Request a demo,” then send a notification to your team in Slack.
What you’ll need
- A Typeform account with the Contacts & Automations add-on. This add-on is available on Plus, Business, Talent, Growth Custom, and Enterprise plans. It’s included with the Growth Flow plan at no extra cost.
- A form with an Email or Phone question. These question types are required to create or update a Square customer profile. You can also map Short Text and Date questions to Square customer fields.
- A Square account.
Prepare your Contacts
If you want to trigger the automation from a Contact update, first create Contacts from your form responses and map the responses to Contact properties. See Create and manage your Contacts and Map form responses to contact properties. Your form needs an Email question or a Contact Info question with an email field to map responses to Contacts.
Set up an automation with Square
1. Open your Typeform workspace and click Automations.
2. Click Create automation.
3. Select what you would like to trigger the automation. Click Form submission, Contact activity or updates, or Scheduled. We'll select Form submission for this example.
4. Select the Workspace where the form is located, then select the form you want to use.
5. Select the submission type you want to trigger the automation. You can choose between Completed, Partial submit point, and Ending screen.
6. Add conditions if you want to control which submissions trigger the automation.
7. Click the + icon to add an action.
8. Select Send to integration.
9. Choose Square from the integration list.
10. Connect your Square account.
Follow the instructions in Typeform to authorize your Square account. If you’ve already connected Square through the Connect tab, you can select that connection instead of connecting your account again.
11. A pop-up appears asking if you want to allow Typeform access to Square. Click Allow.
12. Once your Square account is connected, click Continue.
13. Select which Square business you want to connect Typeform to from the drop down, then click Continue.
14. Map each Typeform question to the corresponding Square customer field by selecting the question from the left-hand dropdown and the Square field from the right-hand dropdown.
Square supports these Typeform question types:
- Short Text
- Date
- Phone
Note! You must map an Email or Phone question to create or update a Square customer record. URL parameters, scores, and variables can’t be mapped to Square customer fields.
15. Click Finish.
16. Click the + icon if you want to add another action.
17. Click Activate to turn on your automation.
Note! Connect to Square from the Connect panel instead if you want to recommend products or embed your form on a Square Online site. For setup instructions, see Recommend products and collect leads with Square.
Product recommendations and form embedding aren’t available when Square is configured inside Automations.
Test your automation
- After you activate your automation, submit a test response or update a test contact, depending on your trigger.
- Confirm that the expected customer data appears in Square.
