Filter your contacts and create contact lists based on properties

You can use filters to search for contacts based on contact property information, like a contact’s location or their lead status.

You can add filters using logical conditions based on people’s answers to the questions in your form. You can then apply filters to default properties, and the custom Contact properties you’ve created. Find out more about Contact properties here

Contacts is available on all Typeform plans. Enterprise customers can activate it by contacting their Customer Success Manager.

How to filter your Contacts

  1. On the Contacts page, click Filter.

  1. Now you’ll see the option to choose a property from the dropdown list under Add filter.

  1. Click the dropdown list to view your properties, and select a property you want to use as a filter. In this example, we’ll select Location.

  1. Now click the dropdown list to select the filtering condition you want to use.

  1. For this short text property type, you can choose between the Contains, Does not contain, Is empty, or Is not empty conditions.

  1. In this example, we’ll just go with the default Contains option. Type the name of the location you want to use as your filter. In this example, we’ll use Germany.

  1. You can also click + Add filter to add another filter. After adding a new filter, you can also select to filter using the AND/OR operators.

  1. Select a property and type the name. In this example, we’ll be filtering for contacts who are located in either France or Germany, so we’ll select the OR operator. Click Apply when you’re done with your selection.

Note that if you had used the AND operator in this example, it would only have applied to respondents who’ve selected that their location is Germany AND France because both of your conditions were based on the same property.

As another example, you could use the AND operator to filter for contacts who meet both of your conditions, but these conditions are based on different properties. For example, you can filter for contacts who are SaaS companies AND are based in Germany.

You can also click Add filter group to create another filter group. Select AND/OR operators here, or click the trashcan icon to delete a filter, or Delete group to delete a filter group. Click Apply when you’re done with your selection.

Now you’ll see your filtered Contact list based on the filtering conditions you’ve applied. In this example, we’ll see Contacts from Germany and France in the filtered list.

  1. Click Save as new list to create a new Contact list based on the filters you’ve applied.

  1. Enter the name of your new Contact list in the List name field, and adjust your filters, if needed. Click Create list when you’re done with your selection.

Now you’ll see that a new list called German and French contacts has been created under Contact lists on the left-hand side of your screen.

You can click the Manage table icon to sort and reorder your contacts table, and save your selection for yourself, or everyone in your organization.
