Currently, your respondents have to complete your typeform in one sitting.
The reason is that the action of clicking on the “Submit” button confirms that they consent to share their data/answers with you.
This means, that if a respondent of yours abandons the form halfway through, partial results will not be saved in your Results table. The reason is simple: collecting respondents’ data without their prior consent might result in legal issues in some countries, especially if the data is of a sensitive nature (e.g. bank, medical records).

Link your typeforms together
If you are going to build a lengthy typeform, what we suggest you do is split it into several shorter typeforms and have the first redirect to the second and so on. Currently, you can do this either with Redirect on completion (Premium feature), or using the button on the customized Thank You Screen (Essentials and above feature). Whichever you choose, you can even use a trick to make it look as though respondents do not get redirected at all: rename the Submit button so it does not give the impression that the form ends there and to make sure respondents click the button on the Thank You Screen, rename that button as well to something that implies that the form continues.

Another solution is to send a link to the next typeform to the respondent via a respondent notification so that they can take the next typeform whenever they want.
You can easily split an existing Typeform into smaller ones. All you need to do is duplicate the typeform as many times as many small typeforms you’d like to have (you can do this by hovering your mouse above your typeform in the workspace view and clicking on the duplicate icon).

This will also allow you to measure separately the time spent on average on each typeform. Moreover, you will not be showing respondents the total number of questions which could scare them away. Instead, they will work through the typeforms in digestible chunks.
