Save your respondents' time by automatically filling in answers to questions in your form if you already have that information available from other sources.
Autofill answers lets you manually populate answers or use URL parameters and enrichment variables to prefill answers to open text questions. If you’re using enrichment variables to prefill answers, the respondent’s email address is required to populate enrichment variables. This can lead to faster completion times, less respondent friction, and higher form completion rates.
You can prefill answers on the following question types:
- Address
- Contact Info
- Long Text
- Short Text
- Number
- Website
- Number
- Phone Number
Autofill answers is available on all Typeform plans, including the Free plan, but it’s excluded from legacy plans.
An example flow with Autofill answers enabled could look like the following:
- Your respondent opens your lead capture or contact form.
- Their email address is passed to the form as a URL parameter or is collected with the first Email address question of the form.
- Their response is enriched with values such as company name, job title, industry, company size, or country based on their email address.
- Questions coming later in the form are prefilled with answers based on these values for the respondent to confirm or edit.
If there is no information available to autofill an answer through enrichment variables, the answer will be blank, and respondents can fill it in as they’d normally do.
To enable Autofill answers in a form:
- Select a question in your form and toggle the Autofill answer switch.
Now you’ll have a few different options to autofill your answers.
- Manually type the answer you want to autofill in the text field. This can be useful when you already have the answer to a specific question in the form. For example, if you’re sending a form to people who work at your company, you already have this information about them, so you can save them some time by autofilling this answer.
- To recall information from the form, type or click @ and select a previous question, a URL parameter, or an Enrichment variable from the dropdown list to autofill the answer.
- In the example below, we’re asking for the full name of our respondent, so we’ll recall both the first_name and last_name URL parameters to autofill their answer.
- If you have Response enrichment enabled, you can also select enrichment variables to autofill answers. Once your respondent provides their email address to the first email address question, their responses will be enriched, and their answers will be autofilled based on these enrichment values.
- In the example below, their answer to the question asking for the name of their company will be autofilled based on the enr_company_name enrichment variable.
Tip: We recommend letting your respondents know that their answers might get autofilled in the description field of your question.
