Combine and compare responses across forms with your Insights dashboard

Combine or compare responses across multiple forms using charts that bring related questions together in a single view. Create a chart to spot trends, compare responses, and get a clearer picture of your data across forms. Once your chart is ready, add it to your dashboard for quick access and easy analysis of your responses in the Insights tab of your account.

You can add up to 5 questions from different forms to each chart, and there’s no limit to the number of charts you can create. Add your charts to your dashboard for easy access, and the questions you’ve added to your charts will automatically update as you receive new responses. The dashboard is set to private and can’t be shared. You can only create charts from forms in workspaces you have access to.

The Insights dashboard is available on the Business, Talent,  Growth Flow, Growth Custom, and Enterprise plans.

Supported questions

You can use the following question types in a chart:

You can merge answer options from different question types into the same bars in a chart if they use the same answer options.

For example, if you have an Opinion Scale question with a 1–5 scale and a Multiple Choice question with the answer options 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, you can merge their responses into the same bars in a chart. The answer options will be grouped together rather than displayed as separate bars in the chart.

We recommend using consistent answer options across your forms if you want to merge responses into the same chart bars. For example, if one question uses the answer option Satisfied and another uses Happy, they’ll be treated as different answer options and displayed as separate bars in the chart.

Below is an example of a chart that contains a Multiple Choice question and a Dropdown question that use the same answer options: Extremely satisfied, Satisfied, and Not satisfied. Although the questions are different types, their identical answer options are merged into the same bars, showing the total response count for each option.

How to create a chart

1. Log into your Typeform account and click the Insights tab.

2. Click + Add chart.

3. In the Form dropdown, select the workspace where your form lives.

Then select the form you want to use.

4. In the Question dropdown, select the question you want to add to your chart.

5. Click + Add question to add another question to your chart.

If you want to add another question from the same form, click the 3 dots next to the form name and select Duplicate. Then select the question you want to add.

6. Select the form and question you want to add to the chart.

7. Add additional questions to your chart if you’d like. You can add up to 5 questions.

To delete a question, click the 3 dots next to the form name and select Delete.

8. Click Combine or Compare to select the type of chart analysis you want.

Below is a Combine chart that groups the responses into a single view. Each answer option is represented by one bar, with the total response count across all forms.

Below is a Compare chart that displays each answer option side by side, making it easy to see how the responses differ across forms. The different colors of the chart bars correspond to the different forms used.

Note! If you only add questions that have numeric answer options, the bars are ordered numerically.

If you have Multiple Choice and numeric answer options, the bars are ordered by response count. If you have enabled the Other answer option in a Multiple Choice question, this will appear last in the chart.

9. Select if you want a Vertical bar, Horizontal bar, or Table chart from the dropdown.

10. Give your chart a name by clicking the default name in the top left corner.

Enter your chart name and click Save.

11. To save your chart, click Add to dashboard.

12. Your chart will now appear in your dashboard. The name of your dashboard will use the name you’ve provided for your Typeform account.

To add more charts to your dashboard, click + Add chart and repeat the steps from above.

To edit or delete a chart, click the 3 dots and select Edit or Delete.
