How to provide context to your research study
When you create your research study from scratch, you’ll first see a screen like the image below:
Or you can click Train in the toolbar to start training and providing context to your study.
Define your research goal
1. Under the Research goals section, click the dropdown to select your research type: Market research, Public opinion, Customer research, or Other.
2. In the What’s your goal for this research session? field, add a description to introduce the goal of your research. You can add up to 1,000 characters.
Write a clear and strong research goal to get better results. AI will then be able to generate questions to suit your research needs. Include the following in your research goal:
- Specify the concepts being compared (e.g. synthetic fabrics vs. natural fabrics).
- State what you’re measuring (e.g. quality, brand trust, purchase intent).
- Define the target category (e.g. high-end sportswear).
- State the desired outcome (what decision you’ll make with the result).
Add company context
1. Click Project or company info.
2. Enter the following:
- Company name - used by AI to introduce your company
- Website - AI won’t scan your website to mirror your branding, but it may use your website as a source of general information about your company.
- Describe your company or project - include what your company does, who your target audience is, and key values/personality
Set the conversation style
1. Click Conversation style.
2. Select the personality you’d like to give the study:
- Friendly and professional - this is the default personality, warm, clear, approachable language suitable for most research contexts.
- Custom - you can write your own tone instructions for the study to follow (e.g. use a clinical, neutral tone appropriate for medical research).
3. Select the respondent language from the dropdown.
This will be the language respondents and your study will use during the session.
Note! The tasks you add to your study, will be translated to the language you select as the respondent language. For example, if you enter a research question in English, and you’ve selected Spanish as your respondent language, the question will be translated to Spanish during the session. However, the Welcome screen will not be translated.
4. Optional, toggle on Agent voice. When this is toggled on, questions or prompts in the session will be read out loud by the study. Question text will still appear on the screen while the study speaks.
Participants can follow along without needing to read everything and it provides an “interview-like” experience.
For best results, keep questions/prompts concise and neutral.
Then select a voice style that fits your session. You can click the play button to hear a sample of the voice.
You’ll see different voice options depending on the respondent language you select.
Select your session format
1. Click Session format.
2. Select how participants will answer your research questions.
| Format | What participants will do | What you'll receive |
| Voice and video | Record voice and webcam | Full video recording, transcript, and highlights |
| Voice | Speak their answers | Audio recording, transcript, and highlights |
| Text | Type their answers | Text responses and highlights |
3. Click Save when you’re done.
