Use Typeform from ChatGPT

Bring Typeform into ChatGPT so you can manage your account without switching tools. To get started, add the Typeform plugin to your ChatGPT account in just a few steps.

Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT to help you create forms, update existing forms, summarize responses, and manage contacts using natural language.

Before you start

You’ll need:

• A Typeform account
• A ChatGPT account
• Access to apps in ChatGPT

Connect Typeform to ChatGPT

1. In ChatGPT, open the sidebar by clicking the sidebar icon in the top left corner. 

You can also click the link to install the Typeform plugin.

2. Click Plugins.

3. In the Search plugins field, enter Typeform. Then click the + icon to add the Typeform plugin.

4. Review the ChatGPT connection to your Typeform account, then click Authorize.

5. You'll be prompted to log into your Typeform account if you're not already. Then you'll see a notification in your ChatGPT account that Typeform is installed.

What you can do once connected

Once ChatGPT is connected, you can ask it to work with your Typeform account—for example, you can ask ChatGPT to perform the following:

• Create new forms
• Update existing forms
• List available themes and apply a theme to your form
• Create and edit themes (adding a logo and background image is not yet supported)
• Create, update, and delete URL parameters
• Preview forms
• Publish forms
• Create a form from a PDF you upload in ChatGPT
• List your forms
• Summarize and analyze responses
• Retrieve the number of responses on forms 
• Get insights to your data
• See each respondent’s answers to several questions side by side, along with response details like device and submission time
• Create, update, and manage contact and contact lists
• Create and edit automations
• Map form responses to contact properties

If your AI workflow involves uploaded files, results can vary depending on how well ChatGPT interprets the file contents.

A simple way to get started is to ask ChatGPT what Typeform tools are available, then ask it to perform a specific task.

When we say tools here, we mean actions ChatGPT can take for you in Typeform, like creating forms, updating forms, creating contacts, and listing forms.

Here are some prompts to get you started:

• “Show me all the Typeform tools you can use for my account.”
• “Create a customer feedback form in Typeform with Name, Email, NPS, and Text questions.”
• “Update my onboarding form in Typeform so the Email question is required and move it before Company size.”
• "Use the information in this PDF I'm uploading to create a form in Typeform."
• “Summarize recent responses for my form in Typeform.”
• "In my website feedback form, show me what people who rated how easy the site was to navigate 3 stars or lower said we should improve, and which device they used."
• “Create a new contact for Alex Rivera with the email alex@example.com in Typeform.”

Before publishing any changes to your forms, review them carefully to confirm everything looks and works as expected. If a form is already live and collecting responses, some edits can affect existing results. For more guidance, see Editing a form that’s already live and collecting responses.

If ChatGPT doesn’t use Typeform for your request straight away, try mentioning Typeform explicitly in your prompt. For example, instead of saying "Make a customer feedback form", try "Use Typeform to create a customer feedback form."

Work with Typeform in the chat

Open Typeform in ChatGPT

In the ChatGPT sidebar, click Explore and select Open Typeform.

Using the ChatGPT desktop app? Pin Typeform to your sidebar so it's always one click away. Click the three dots (...) in the sidebar, hover over Open Typeform, and click the pin icon on the right.

Find your way around

Once Typeform is open, here's what you'll find:

Prompt suggestions: click Create a form, Set up an automation, Style my form, Get insights, or Give me ideas. A ready-made prompt appears in the message box. Send it as it is, or edit it first.

Tabs: each tab helps you get started with a different part of Typeform:

• Forms: lists your forms.
• Contacts: suggests prompts such as Import contacts, Save responses, Create a list, and Track more details.
• Automations: suggests prompts such as Send a thank-you, Notify my team, Follow up with leads, and Check in later.
• Research studies: click Start a study to create one in Typeform.
• Pages: click Create your landing page to create one in Typeform.
• Organization switcher: if you belong to more than one Typeform organization, click the organization name in the top-left corner to switch.

Preview a form

1. On the Forms tab, click a form. 

2. The preview opens. Click through the form as a respondent would. Submissions are turned off in the preview, so you won't create any responses.

3. To see how it looks on a mobile device, click the mobile icon at the top. Click the desktop icon to switch back.

4. When you're done, click X to close the preview.

Change a form with ChatGPT

From the Forms tab: click Edit in chat next to the form. ChatGPT adds the form as context, shown above the message box, and suggests a prompt asking for a few improvements. You can edit the prompt or send it as it is.

While previewing a form: type what you'd like to change in the message box. For example: "Make the Email question required." The form you're previewing is already added as context, so you don't need to say which form you mean.

ChatGPT makes the change in the background, so you can keep chatting. When it's done, click the refresh icon at the top of the preview to see the change.

To keep editing in the form builder, click View on Typeform at the top of the preview. 

From the Forms tab, click the three dots (⋮) next to a form and select View on Typeform.

Changes are saved to your form as a draft, so respondents won't see them until you publish. When you're happy with them, ask ChatGPT to publish the form (for example, "Publish this form").

If you already connected Typeform before, reconnect by connecting the Typeform plugin in ChatGPT to load the latest available tools.
