How to reuse the same custom URL for different forms (workaround)

At Typeform, each form has a unique form ID that is included in the URL of your forms, so you can’t publish multiple forms under the same link at the same time. If you’re looking for a way to share different forms with the same URL, we’ve got a workaround for you.

If you’re on a Plus or above plan, and you’ve already set up a custom subdomain, you can use a custom link, then reassign that same URL to a different form later. This is useful if you want to swap one form for another without sharing a new link with your respondents.

For example, if you have a custom subdomain https://jonathan.typeform.com/to/leadgen for form A, you can reuse the same https://jonathan.typeform.com/to/leadgen custom subdomain for form B.

In this article, we’ll show you how to set this up step-by-step.

  1. First, let’s create the two forms we’ll be using for the A/B test, and give them a name that’ll make it easy to differentiate between the two forms, for example, Variant A and Variant B.

  1. Open up Variant A, and click Share or Publish Edits.

  1. On the Share page, click Edit next to the form link to start customizing it.

  1. Now you’ll see your form link with its unique form ID at the end of the URL string. You can edit this part of the URL under Customize link to rename your form.

  1. Type the string you want to use in your form link and click Save. Your custom link must be between 5 and 15 characters long. It is case sensitive and can only contain letters, numbers, and hyphens.

Now you can share this form with your audience to collect responses. Once you’ve collected the information you need, you can reset the customized form link to the original version, and assign the same custom link used to a different form.

  1. Open up your first form (Variant A), and go back to the Share page. In the Customize link tab click Reset changes to restore the original form URL.

  1. Click Save. Now you’ll be able to use the same custom link in a different form.

  1. Go to the form you’ll be using as your B variant, and click Share or Publish edits.

  1. On the Share page, click Edit next to the form URL of Variant B.

  1. Now you can edit the form URL to customize your link.

  1. Add the same string you’ve used on the previous form to the end of the URL and click Save.

Now when people click on the link you’ve previously shared with them, they’ll see Variant B instead of Variant A without seeing a broken link or redirect. You can repeat the same process as many times as you want to share different forms with the same form URL for a seamless respondent experience.
