Why does my Contacts database already have contacts?

When you open Contacts for the first time, you may see contacts already added to your database, even if you haven’t added any yourself.

This happens because Typeform automatically creates contacts using recent responses from your existing forms, when certain conditions are met. This helps you explore how Contacts works using real data from your responses.

When are contacts auto-imported?

Contacts are auto-imported only if all of the following apply:

  • Your Contacts database is empty
  • Your workspace has 5 or fewer forms
  • You have access to the forms in the workspace
  • At least one published form includes:
    • an Email question, or
    • a Contact info question that includes an email field

The import happens the first time you visit Contacts.

What data is imported?

Auto-imported contacts are limited to:

  • Up to 100 responses per form
  • A maximum of 1,000 contacts in total
  • Responses collected within the last 12 months
  • Responses from published forms only
  • Data from forms you have access to

How are contacts and properties created?

Contacts and properties are created using the following rules:

  • Email answers are mapped to the Email contact property.
  • If a form includes a Contact info question, each field is imported as a separate contact property, such as name, phone number, or address.

Note! If you delete auto-imported contacts, they will not be re-imported. For Enterprise accounts, auto-import is turned off by default.
