Every video question added to your form will have captions generated automatically in the language set on your form. While we try our best to be as accurate as possible, sometimes it’s not always 100% correct. In the Video preferences, you have the option to review and modify captions to correct any errors or include any additional captions to your video.
Below you’ll find instructions and guidelines on how to edit the captions on your video question.
How to edit captions
1. On your video question, click Video preferences.
2. Click the Captions tab.
3. In the Review or edit captions field, edit any caption errors or timestamps.
You can also toggle close captions on or off for your respondents. The toggle is on by default.
4. Click Save when you’re done. Or click Reset changes to remove the changes you’ve made. Clicking Reset changes will also reset any other unsaved changes in Video preferences.
Guidelines for editing captions
- Captions and timestamps are broken into cues that consist of a cue number, timestamp, and caption line.
- A blank line is needed in between cues.
- Don't remove the cue numbers; an error message will appear if you remove a cue number.
- You can edit the start and end times on timestamps. Timestamps indicate when the captions should appear and disappear on the video.
- Timestamp must start with a numeric character in the range of 0-9.
- Timestamp must follow the format of 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:00.000 (hour : minute : second : millisecond).
- Timestamp value can’t exceed 59 minutes or 59 seconds.
- For example, you can't have the following timestamp format - 00:65:75:00.000.
- Timestamp must be greater than any previous timestamp.
- Edit the caption text in the caption line (below the timestamp). If you add text to the timestamp, an error message will appear.
- If there is an error with editing your captions, you’ll see an error message at the bottom of the field.
- The error message will display which line contains the error.
- In the case of multiple errors, only one will be shown at a time, arranged by line number from lowest to highest. After the displayed error is corrected, the next error will be shown.
- If captions aren't valid, the Reset changes and Save button will be disabled.
